The BCCCC-NB Youth Civic Engagement Club is a dynamic youth initiative focused on civic education, leadership development, and cultural empowerment for Afro-Canadian youth in New Brunswick.


 Purpose & Vision

The Youth Civic Engagement Club is designed to deepen the civic involvement of Afro-Canadian youth by immersing them in the workings of Canada’s democratic institutions, especially Parliament. The initiative aims to:

  • Build awareness of political systems and democratic processes.
  • Encourage active participation in civic life.
  • Develop leadership and communication skills.
  • Strengthen cultural identity and community ties.
  • Increase visibility of African-Canadian youth in public spheres.

 Core Objectives

1. Civic Education & Political Literacy

  • Youth will gain hands-on understanding of Canadian political institutions.
  • Activities include simulations of parliamentary debates and legislative processes.
  • Participants will learn how laws are made, how MPs and senators operate, and how government functions.

2. Informed Citizen Participation

  • Training in parliamentary debate, legislative proposal writing, and negotiation.
  • Focus on empowering youth to engage meaningfully with political systems.

3. Personal & Collective Development

  • Emphasis on public speaking, leadership, teamwork, and negotiation.
  • Skills gained will benefit participants in both professional and everyday contexts.

4. Cultural Empowerment

  • Workshops and exchanges will explore Afro-Canadian history, identity, and lived experiences.
  • Promotes pride, solidarity, and awareness of cultural contributions.

5. Community Visibility

  • Media coverage and public-facing events will showcase youth leadership.
  • Aims to elevate Afro-Canadian voices in New Brunswick’s social and political landscape.

🧩 Program Components

     Canadian Parliamentary System Training

  • Interactive modules and expert-led sessions on how Parliament works.
  • Covers roles of MPs, senators, and the legislative process.

     Parliamentary Simulations

  • Youth will debate fictional bills in mock chambers.
  • Topics may include tolerance, human rights, and cultural diversity.
  • Guided by policy and legal experts.

     Conference Series

  • Engagements with local and provincial politicians.
  • Offers real-world insights into governance and political challenges.

    Media & Journalism Training

  • Youth will produce media content covering their parliamentary activities.
  • Mentorship from professional journalists to build communication and visibility skills.

    Lobbying & Advocacy

  • Training on how to represent minority interests and influence policy.
  • Focus on strategic dialogue and political representation.

    Cultural Workshops

  • Celebrations of African-Canadian heritage through events and storytelling.
  • Strengthens identity and fosters community pride.
